Nature has unique energy here. Huge oak trees frame the views that open across the fields to the sea and the island of Capri. If they could speak, they would whisper to the
passer-by the stories from the times when the land was ravaged by the long-running battle for supremacy between the Papal states and the Holy Roman Empire and when each city was divided between the Guelfs and the Ghibellines.
Slowdown value: A place of pure magic
Seemingly in the heart of nature, but in reality, only a stone's throw away from the ancient Greek city of Paestum and sandy beaches, il Cannito is nested in the embrace of Mediterranean vegetation and 600-year-old oaks. It offers a break from the world and brings the guests to the magnificent nature, magical sunsets, and a deep sense of ancient history, characteristic of Southern Italy.
Here, the moments are magical in equal measure due to the magnificence of nature, and the deep sense of the passage of time and history, a feeling that is hard to describe and must be experienced.
You will also find the Gorga family just as charming as nature; they poured all their love for the authenticity of the environment into il Cannito and their devotion is felt in every detail of the place. When you respond to their kindness, you will feel the "slowdown effect".
Slowdown value: Come here if you love architecture and art
The stone house with arches and large glass windows, hidden in the lush growth, is absolutely breathtaking. The story of the house began 40 years ago when Luigi Gorga fell in love with this piece of land - the Capaccio area – and transformed the original ruins of a small monastery into a piece of paradise, it is also fascinating. The Gorga family renovated the house according to the guidelines laid down for the original construction, which included a stone facade and wooden vaulted ceilings inside. The family's devotion to art, design, and tradition gives the house its unique originality.
Slowdown value: Feel the respect of a totally natural & efficient environment
The Gorga family also incorporated their ideas of preserving the natural and authentic environment into the il Cannito concept. Respect for nature and its effects on the people. The founders of il Cannito were Anna Maria and her husband Luigi, who fell in love with the local nature and the historical value of the place. Today, the estate is taken over by their three children, Antonella, Nicola, and Santa, who with their passion and dedication to core values continue to develop il Cannito in their own unique ways to make it into a special place for souls who love the magic of the natural and authentic. Il Cannito is an exclusive experience of authenticity in its most original form. The flora and fauna give the stay a special touch.
"Natural materials connect with the natural environment. Every part of the day can conjure up a magical moment when the light draws distinct reflections on the arches of windows, tables... The rhythms of life and the daily routine here are perfectly tuned to nature, with plenty of visual stimulation to help you unwind and relax."
"Four elements that narrate the story of two enchanting residences surrounded by broom thickets and old oak trees: the sun, the rocks, the trees, and above all, the sea. A place of infinite charm."
Slowdown value: Come here for slow mornings
The gentle morning light only slowly makes its way through the dense vegetation. The breakfast here is a fusion of colors and authentic flavors with homemade jams, fresh eggs, fresh orange juice, and of course, fresh cake baked by Santa, the eldest of three children in the Gorga family, a professional confectioner who guarantees the authenticity of sweet Italian delicacies.
"The two enchanting residences are surrounded by thick Mediterranean maquis composed of oaks, Holm -oaks, elm trees, myrtle, and juniper thickets: a natural mix of colors and perfumes that enhance the uncontaminated beauty of areas dearly loved by the ancient Greeks and Romans."
Slowdown value: Come here if you have a passion for unique nature
Il Cannito consists of 4 designer-inspired rooms: Sun, Earth, Moon, and Sea. Two of the four rooms that the resort offers are located in the main house with arched windows. A winding path paved with stone and wood leads to the entrance, inviting you to a private, secluded retreat in the heart of nature.
Our experience was room named SUN, which has a large terrace facing the lush forest. High ceilings, stone facade, and polished artisan terracotta floors all come together as a whole that soothes the mind and body and offers a feeling of comfort in the middle of the authentic & typical nature of the Mediterranean Cilento area. The bathroom with hydro-massage and hydro-sonic bathtubs is a genuine wellness oasis, offering a special experience enhanced by large windows facing the forest.
Slowdown value: Dive deep into the sunset
As you walk along the wooden path through the forest, the air smells of earth and trees, the branches rustle and small critters run in front of you. Suddenly, the view opens in all directions, as if you have arrived in a mini oasis - il Cannito swimming pool.
All movement stops and the heart calms down. The mountains seemingly provide a background to the panoramic view open towards Paestum, the sea, and the island of Capri, all of which reveal themselves as if on the theatrical stage.
Slowdown value: Come here if you love unique tranquility with an infinity view of Capri
One of the most unforgettable details is certainly the magnificent sunsets, painted with spectacular colors. Every day here is special and every day you are left speechless and amazed by this art of nature, pondering the magnificence of nature and the place of man in the world.
"The pool is situated in a position with an exceptional panorama of Paestum and its temples and in the distance the Amalfi coastline and the beautiful isle of Capri.
Part of its splendor is that is surrounded by a typical Mediterranean landscape and guarantees tranquillity."
Slowdown value: Come here for the soul food - the heart and soul of il Cannito
Sunset. View the magical island of Capri.
The endless horizon.
Soft melodies of Jazz.
Invitation to dinner.
The heart and soul of il Cannito can also be tasted. As a guest, you will feel and experience the love that the Gorga family poured into the estate every day not just in the housing and the environment, but also in the meals prepared by Nicola. The young man succeeded his mother Anna Maria in the kitchen some sixteen years ago.
"The kitchen follows the trace from the past and allows you to savor the production of vegetables and fruits from the agricultural company." IL CANNITO
Slowdown value: Passion for the food & ingredients
The menu is simple at first glance but rich in flavors once the food is served. Food prepared with passion and devotion. Refined recipes that reveal the beauty of simple dishes and exquisite taste. Also an ode to all the people who create only the best in the process of growing food and passing on the tradition of each ingredient selected and used by the chef Nicola. The dishes here are like poetry, adding that special final touch to a unique experience in the heart of the Mediterranean.
Slowdown value: A salutary way of eating without a doubt, a choice of life.
We also need to point out the family’s philosophy regarding each ingredient, which is based on respect for the natural, organic, traditional, and safe production of food that we introduce into our bodies.
They are committed to the idea that nothing we eat should be grown using pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or growth preparations. Only purely organic and biodynamic. That's why already the flavors of the basic ingredients here will leave you speechless.
Here you will also sample the first-class gourmet products produced in the Campania region, known for high-quality foods such as various milk products made from buffalo milk, the most famous of which is certainly the hand-made mozzarella. The famous hazelnuts used for the widely popular Nutella also originate in this region and are used in a variety of dishes & desserts.
The il Cannito project invites you to pristine nature and pampers you in the exclusive authentic environment of the Cilento. They cultivate their own permaculture garden within the framework of the Natural Agriculture project that they have started in 2018 and is a part of their bigger "Cilento Dimora Natura" concept, which carries the mission of sustainable tourism development and the development of high-standard service.
Slowdown value: Private Eco Beach
Mare Mirtilli, their private eco-beach that existed even before il Cannito, is located in Paestum. Here they began a family vision to preserve a piece of the beach by the Tyrrhenian Sea, with the authentic natural ecosystem of Cilento. The contact with the land and the sea is maintained in a sustainable way.
With each project, the Gorga family advocates for a sustainable way of tourism that regenerates the environment and takes great care that the environment remains pristine and authentic, and preserves the characteristic ecosystem. A true "Slowdown" value.
Slowdown value: come here to explore ancient Paestum
Il Cannito is located in the heart of the Campania region and the Cilento province, in the hinterland of the city of Paestum, famous for its ancient ruins. The city of Paestum was an ancient Greek city, and today you can explore here the ruins of three ancient Greek temples built in the Doric style, which date back to the years 600 to 450 BC.
Our visit did not cover everything as there is much to see and enjoy, but be sure to visit the buffalo farms. In the region famous for its buffalo mozzarella, caring for these animals is a unique attraction, as the buffalo enjoy listening to classical music, live in highly modernized stables, are brushed every day, eat only organic food, and are treated only with homeopathic preparations.
Just a few tips on why you have
to experience its surrounding:
The real "La Dolce Vita" can be enjoyed on Trentova beach, which, like a crescent, cuts into the hills of the Cilento region near the town of Agropoli with crystal clear water and stones.
