Bad Ratzes has one of the most slow-down experiences, due to its secluded location. The hotel is located just outside Seis am Schlern. From the last house, the road winds through a beautiful forest, and when the mighty Schlern massif opens up in front of you, you have arrived at your destination. From here, the paths only lead to well-being. Peace, quiet, and breathtaking scenery touch all the senses upon arrival.

Rich culture and unique natural qualities make this sustainable bio-hotel, situated at the foot of the Seiser Alm, a truly special place. They carefully protect this unique piece of land and preserve nature with respect, allowing for a pure experience.

This place is deeply inspired by the natural surroundings. Lush forest and majestic rock formations are intertwined and delicately woven into the hotel's interior, connecting interior and exterior in a way that we can actually feel and experience while staying here.
Here, it seems that even when you're inside, you're connected to nature rather than the view or textures of the materials. Each space creatively plays with the boundaries of how we move between inside and outside, shaping the experience of being with nature, which has such a benevolent effect on our well-being.

Bad Ratzes blends the rich history of the house with modernity and a new way of slowing down. They treat the house with respect to its past, which brings the soul to the place, but also they slowly renovate the hotel as a whole, and they have started with new wellness, new rooms, and suites. And therefore, they have created a beautiful experience of keeping the pristine soul of the place, but adding a layer of modern comfort to create new ways to slow down.

Our experience was in a double room named BADL.
A spacious room with personal wellness facilities. A sauna and bathtub with a view towards the beauty of the blooming meadow. The bathtub is positioned the way it's just calling to fill it up with warm water and unwind the moment in privacy.
Wood plays a leading role in the room, and here, you can experience that with all your senses, by touching, seeing, and smelling the gentle scent of wood. The room also comes with a cozy balcony that connects you with nature and the beauty of the Schlern massif, just sitting and observing is enough to let go and cultivate happiness.
Slowdown Value: KEPF, fully renovated suite in new style of Bad Ratzes
When you like to have a bit more of a shady room during the first part of the day, choose Suite KEPF. Beautifully renovated in a modern style, using lots of handcrafted details. This suite is a little gem in the house, with a touch of Japanese Zen philosophy in an Alpine style. The wood, the glass, the precious materials, the large space, and the circular flooring make this room a room of cozy corners, where you can find a comfortable mood for the different parts of the day. It includes a bathtub and a sauna.
In the late afternoon, you can enjoy natural wellness, sitting on the balcony, warmed by a gentle sun, and relaxing with the views towards the Schlern massif and the pleasant sounds of the nearby water stream.

Living in a noisy world, we begin to underestimate the silence. But silence heals us, it heals our mind and soul. Here they specially designed the new wellness spaces the way it is comfortable to enjoy in silence.

The world praises loud spaces that promise you to have fun. But your body and mind are becoming too stimulated in your daily life. Silence regenerates our bodies, and nowadays we almost need to relearn how to be with ourselves in silence; without using earpads to listen to music, podcasts, etc. We need to relearn how to relax without external impulses. It seems this is becoming the hardest thing to do. We believe we need to find the right spaces where silence feels naturally good.
The new quiet room is a place of quiet self-communion, permeated by the soothing scent of lavender infused into its walls. The organic wall covering not only creates a special atmosphere, but it also allows Spa guests to experience the power of nature with every breath they take. And the shapes of the furniture give a gentle atmosphere to the overall experience.

Water has that soothing effect. When you step into the pool here, the moment stops. Your body is transferred to a new world, and your mind gets occupied with happy thoughts. It's all set up, to bring you to well-being. Close your eyes and become completely at one with yourself – at nature wellness hotel in Bad Ratzes.

The new Spa is a pure oasis of slow down. It feels natural and relaxing thanks to carefully selected materials that simulate the natural environment. Large windows invite the forest to create a beautiful background. The colours and different textures stimulate the senses. Every design element breathes nature and, as the sum of its individual parts, combines to form a harmonious whole.
The inner walls are Istrian limestone, known as “Kanfanar”, whose warm brown and beige tones create an inviting atmosphere and simulate the nearness of the mountains that you can touch and feel. It all connects when you swim in an outside pool and enjoy the majestic view of the rock formations of the Schlern massif. The irregular, rough surfaces of the large stone slabs tell of their wild origins, while the image is rounded off by spruce wood slats that, wavelike, gently run along the ceiling.

One of the most relaxing spaces in Bad Ratzes is their blooming meadow, turned into a natural therapy for relaxation. Through the months of June and July, they do not cut it down; rather, they let it bloom in all its beauty. And this beauty is the most unique »slowdown effect« of this place. In the past, such meadows were maybe usual, but nowadays they are a real rarity. Especially secluded and only surrounded by the majestic Schlern massif, where we can find a spot for ourselves to slow down and experience nature and the lively insect activity in close-up.
SLOWDOWN PHILOSOPHY
Outdoor wellness
Fire, earth, water, air – you move between the elements as the indoors becomes outdoors, and the outdoors indoors. Grasses and meadow flowers, treetops, and the imposing Santner Spire are all reflected in the refreshing waters, as droplets burst and glisten in the sunlight.
Slowdown value: Restore lost vitality in outdoor saunas and natural BIO pool
Just silence, soothing warmth, and a hint of eternity. Lightness that is timeless. Energy flows – and guests can restore lost vitality in the Finnish sauna (90°C) and/or the bio-sauna (60°C), located in the indoor area of the new Spa.
You have a sensation of weightlessness here, as the elements play in a pool that brings to mind a mountain lake, filled with spring water and is cleaned naturally using pumps. It is unheated and its temperature depends on the season. Nor do they use any chlorine additives – they protect what they prize and your larger organ, the skin.

Disused freight containers, once voyagers on the high seas, now offer a new experience of relaxation
It's just beautiful how some things you would never think of, are adding a new dimension of experiencing slow down. Two containers were carefully converted into peaceful sauna oases that blend harmoniously into their surroundings.
Natural materials such as larch wood and an innovative insulation material made from recycled newspaper were used to combine comfort and sustainability. Large windows offer breathtaking views of the Schlern massif, and the nearby forest allows nature to flow into these outdoor rooms of silence.

At a time when tourism in South Tyrol was still a novel concept, the first artists and thinkers found their way to Bad Ratzes. This identity as a cultural space lives on today through readings, exhibitions, concerts, and quiet moments of wonder. Nestled in nature, framed by the Schlern, and steeped in the traditions of the Dolomites, Bad Ratzes remains a place where inspiration flows.

The year 2025 brings sounds from the alpine region, modern classical music, soul rich with history, and a new art series that redefines the mountain myth. Guests, friends, and lovers of culture are warmly invited to listen, see, and feel together.
